In Pairs

Glory be to God who created the heavens and the earth,
Praise be to God who made all things in pairs.

Thanks be to God who had given me shape in the womb,
Praise be to God who planted within it my unwinding.

Thanks be to God who had strengthened me that I may be established in this land,
Praise be to God who withdrew my strength that I learn that I rely upon Him alone.

Thanks be to God who had made swift my hand,
Praise be to God who made my right hand lose its cunning that I may consider my action.

Thanks be to God who had given me a voice with which I held command,
Praise be to God who made my tongue cleave that I may listen.

Thanks be to God who had me outpace all others,
Praise be to God who seized my feet so that I may watch the world pass me by.

Thanks be to God who had granted me a measure of wealth so that I may give from it without hesitation,
Praise be to God who challenged me to outstretch my shaking hands so that I may receive it with humility,

Thanks be to God who had made me fleet of foot, resilient of body, and agile of mind.
Praise be to God who reminded me that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor the bread to the wise.

Thanks be to God who has shown me that He has raised me when I had nothing,
And that He alone will sustain me even when I shall have nothing.

Praise be to God who sent me into this world steadfast,
Glory be to God who has now drawn me near that I may witness His Grace in awe, with fear and trembling.
